Blood Clot and Bedrest!!

So I'm at work Thursday, and my calf is killing me and seems to start swelling, and my leg feels like I have a permanent charlie horse that just won't release. So of course, as we all sometimes do, I start to try to diagnose myself via the world wide web and I find out that I should probably call my surgeon.......

duh, duh, duh...( that was supposed to be the scary suspense music)

I call the surgeon's office, he's out of town, go figure.....the staff says they are going to try to reach him and call me back.....within 15 minutes I get a call that says I need to go directly to the hospital for an ultrasound to rule out a blood clot. Luckily, I work for my dad,  and he was able to drive me over......

duh, duh, duh

I get to the hospital and they have set it up so that I can go through outpatient and not the ER ( Thank the Lord, literally), because at this point my calf is absolutely killing me. All in all,  everything is handled very quickly. It is confirmed that I have a clot behind my knee and down to my ankle ( hence the calf pain) and the hospital calls my surgeon,  my surgeon calls my primary care and then I am told to go straight to the primary care 's office. I go straight to the primary care's office where I am told I will be on complete bed rest for 4-5 days. I have to take a shot of Lovenox ( blood thinner) in the belly for all 5 days ( which my very sweet neighbor who is a nurse has been administering) and that I have to take coumadin ( blood thinner) by mouth for 3-6 months. I'm thinking my blood is very thin right now..................

Follow ups at both the surgeon and the primary care office will be Tuesday.

I also find out that with taking Coumadin, you have to watch your intake of Vitamin K which includes all lettuce and spinach and favorite things to eat and the things that don't encourage my butt to keep getting wider.....lovely...

I was so trying to have a positive outlook, and so looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible, and yet another set back. I also know that God doesn't give us more than we can handle but he's pushin it........I'm not sure if physically or mentally, I can take much more..............

So, today, I ask for prayers, if you aren't the praying type, I ask for well wishes and positive vibes, something has got to give.....................

From my bed, and the endless episodes of HGTV, Food Network and TLC, I say....................

Happy Running,

  1. So scary! I'm glad you got yourself to the doctors right away. My mom had a DVT last year due to chemo. It was scary...she also had to do the coumadin. The good news is all straightened out in the end, and I'm sure yours will too. Keep your chin up!

  2. Oh no!!! That's scary, and so frustrating. Keep on thinking positive, and hopefully this will be the last hurdle. Feel better soon!

  3. Oh, jeez, that is terrible! I am so sorry. I hope the bed rest and drugs take care of everything and you are better after that. Ugh!!!

  4. OMG Tobi, I feel horrible for you.

Take care of yourself girl. Forget about all the other stuff and just get your body healthy. We'll still be here waiting for your running posts :)

    Chin up and be well!

  5. OMG! That is beyond scary. Take it easy and get healthy!

  6. That is so scary!!! I am so sorry! Feel better soon.

  7. Holy Moley woman!! I am praying for you! I am so glad you called yoru Dr. and caught this thing early! I know it is so hard to keep a positive attitude and you are right, God does not give us more than we can handle which means you are ONE STRONG LADY! Be open to God and try to hear what he is telling you. At church last week our lesson was about listeing to God's answer when we pray. Sometimes we get it and dismiss is there somewhere.

And in the mean time Sit and Be Fit comes on here around 10 AM. =) Just saying when the time comes it could help with those foods that like to hang out on the butt and thighs! Hang in there I'm praying for you and your fam!!!

  8. ohhh goodness, I'm so sorry!!! But I am so glad that over all truly you are ok. A few more days down won't change the end result, you will still come back strong.

  9. Prayers are headed your way. I'm glad you and your doctors didn't put off treatment. Rest up and don't worry about a thing but getting better!

  10. hope youre feeling a little better!
